Welcome from James Steward Dear HIS Community, It is the last week of school before Golden Week, however, this cannot deter us from keeping up an amazing pace! Takako sensei spent the weekend hosting our Music Camp preparing our wonderful musicians for the coming Spring Concert which will occur in May. They sound excellent.  The PYP Exhibition will take centre stage this week, as our Grade 5’s, led by Ms Tremblay, aim to share their learning with a multitude of special guests. This is the culminating activity for the PYP! Good luck, Team! The Peace Riders continue to train hard for our coming journey which will take us through the mountains of Yamaguchi this year from May 20-24. Mr Barker has set the bar very high on this front, as…

Welcome from James Steward The sun was beaming down on HIS yesterday at our International Festival. With sunny skies and warm temperatures, the mood was expectant for a great party, and this is exactly how the day unfolded.  We had an incredible turnout for the event with present families and new friends from across Hiroshima coming to check out what life was like at HIS!  The day was full of excellent entertainment and events including musical acts, jujitsu, fencing, taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, bazaars, student-initiated activities and much more.  Children enjoyed face painting, bouncy castles, games and crafts. They even were able to see what it was like to ride in a firetruck! For those that required extra care, our day care service was superb. Thank you! Everyone enjoyed the…

Welcome from James Steward After the prior week devoted to ‘The Arts’ in the DP, this week was filled with more exciting events and happenings culminating with the Karaoke Challenge Final between SangHyo and Lan.  During this assembly, some guest singers also graced the stage including Mr Chris and Mr Washington.  In the end, it was Lan who outdueled SangHyo! Lan's melodic voice was too much for SangHyo’s captivatingly crowd-pleasing style. Fans were left mesmerized by both singers’ exceptional talents.  Thank you to Mr Washington and the Student Council for organizing this excellent event.  Please read further for more information.  James Steward HIS Principal Event: Japanese Language Continuum Coffee Morning at HIS Cross-Programme Coffee Morning: Journey on the Japanese Language Continuum at HIS April, 4th 9:00 AM to 10:00 C-day…

Welcome from James Steward This week’s CRANE is devoted to success in ‘The Arts’ at HIS. On Friday, we were able to celebrate the hard work and diligence of our ‘2024 Graduates’ and also Secondary students from G9-11 aspiring toward artistic and musical greatness! In the morning, we assembled at the Gojinsha Hitomachi Plaza Art Gallery to review the various works of Secondary students. The stars of the day were Koichi and Ryoma. Both artists offered amazing introspect into their respective life perspectives. Each artist spoke at length about their amazing art pieces.  Koichi clearly looks at life from a depth that resonates with all ages. His youthful wisdom bodes well for his future. He will positively influence the world as he moves toward university from the DP Programme.  Ryoma’s…

Welcome from James Steward While HIS powered ahead, I spent most of the week in Nagasaki on the Grade 678 Trip. One of the reasons we decided upon Nagasaki was to understand more about the history that it shares with Hiroshima. The similarities remain indelible and influential marks on Japanese history. Nagasaki is a beautiful region of Japan in its own right and we were greeted with exceptional warmth. Our Grade 678 students were absolutely exceptional, as were our dedicated teachers. Thank you for a wonderful experience. As well, thank you to Makkie san in our HIS Office for her excellent support in preparation for this complex endeavour.  While we were off in Kyushu, HIS continued to flourish. The Let’s Bake Team continued to create tasty treats with our students.…

Welcome from James Steward It was a short, yet busy week at HIS! Upon return, the feeling of LOVE was in the air as the community engaged in Valentine’s Day proceedings. Chocolate hearts and other treats were delivered and given in a spirit of warmth and generosity. I would be remiss if I did not thank the PTA Wolfpack for their amazing organization for our Valentine’s events. Thank you! And, when Valentines were not gracing our corridors, other great things were happening. Preparations for our next ‘Hot Lunch’ were taking place in the HIS Kitchen. Peace Riders showed their grit while riding in the relentless rain on Thursday afternoon. Grades 3-4-5 participated in a unique outdoor game of Predator and Prey on Friday morning in support of the current studies…

Welcome from James Steward Setsubun is upon us. Students enjoyed a party-like atmosphere on Friday afternoon with Yumi sensei leading the festivities. The devils have been eradicated and good fortune is ahead! I hope that everyone was able to enjoy their favourite ‘good luck’ sushi rolls over the weekend. Our Japanese Assembly was excellent mid-week. The proud Grade 5 presenters did a wonderful job with their book trailers.  The Peace Riders were out in force on Thursday! Mr Barker was at his best changing tires in the brisk and windy weather.  We are looking forward to our PTA Wolfpack Hot Lunch on Monday. It’s curry, my favourite! It looks like another cold week ahead, so the curry will go down well! Thank you, as well, for running the PTA Shop this…
