Welcome from James Steward Dear HIS Community, This past week, the Peace Riders left HIS early on Monday morning for the mountains and incredible beauty of Yamaguchi. The days were long and challenging. Students were up early each day cooking and preparing for the long days at our daily campsites. Each day, the HIS Team covered about 100 km. Mr Barker ensured that every day had multiple huge climbs to conquer. No climb was too great for our amazing students. The team’s collective fitness and positive attitude was simply superb. All of the year’s training and preparation paid off.  Thank you to Mr B for his stellar support in the HIS van. Mr B even took to cycling a couple of times as well, though he was concerned about the…

Takako sensei spent the weekend hosting our Music Camp preparing our wonderful musicians for the coming Spring Concert which will occur in May. Welcome from James Steward The sun was beaming down on HIS yesterday at our International Festival. With sunny skies and warm temperatures, the mood was expectant for a great party, and this is exactly how the day unfolded.  We had an incredible turnout for the event with present families and new friends from across Hiroshima coming to check out what life was like at HIS!  The day was full of excellent entertainment and events including musical acts, jujitsu, fencing, taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, bazaars, student-initiated activities and much more.  Children enjoyed face painting, bouncy castles, games and crafts. They even were able to see what it was like to ride in a firetruck! For those that required extra care, our day care service was superb. Thank you! Everyone enjoyed the…

Welcome from James Steward After the prior week devoted to ‘The Arts’ in the DP, this week was filled with more exciting events and happenings culminating with the Karaoke Challenge Final between SangHyo and Lan.  During this assembly, some guest singers also graced the stage including Mr Chris and Mr Washington.  In the end, it was Lan who outdueled SangHyo! Lan's melodic voice was too much for SangHyo’s captivatingly crowd-pleasing style. Fans were left mesmerized by both singers’ exceptional talents.  Thank you to Mr Washington and the Student Council for organizing this excellent event.  Please read further for more information.  James Steward HIS Principal Event: Japanese Language Continuum Coffee Morning at HIS Cross-Programme Coffee Morning: Journey on the Japanese Language Continuum at HIS April, 4th 9:00 AM to 10:00 C-day…

Welcome from James Steward While HIS powered ahead, I spent most of the week in Nagasaki on the Grade 678 Trip. One of the reasons we decided upon Nagasaki was to understand more about the history that it shares with Hiroshima. The similarities remain indelible and influential marks on Japanese history. Nagasaki is a beautiful region of Japan in its own right and we were greeted with exceptional warmth. Our Grade 678 students were absolutely exceptional, as were our dedicated teachers. Thank you for a wonderful experience. As well, thank you to Makkie san in our HIS Office for her excellent support in preparation for this complex endeavour.  While we were off in Kyushu, HIS continued to flourish. The Let’s Bake Team continued to create tasty treats with our students.…
