Principal’s Message

Dear HIS Community

I hope you have all had an enjoyable week. Yesterday, our Grade 6 class travelled to Miyoshi to find out a little bit more about our local histories as part of an interdisciplinary unit inquiring into Japanese and Individuals & Societies. It sounds like they had a great trip.

I would like to wish our Gr12 students the best of luck as they move into a short independent study period before the IB Diploma Program exams start on the 28th of April and then continue for a few weeks. It is a busy time for the students and we are looking forward to congratulating them all at their graduation on Sunday 29th May. For the parents of our Gr12 class, I am sure that you are feeling that the years certainly fly by very fast indeed. Enjoy your weekend.

Kind regards

Damian Rentoule

Sean’s Letter to the Editor

Sean’s(G11) letter to the editor
Sean wrote a great letter to the “Chugoku shinbun” editor as part of a task in Japanese class, and it was recently published. It is about the importance of balance regarding smartphone use. Excellent work Sean!

Charity Run

Two of our Gr5 students, Daiwa and Yoshitaka, are organizing a charity race to raise funds in support of the Free the Children organization. This is part of their action for the PYP Exhibition. They are putting together the information now but it will be held on Tuesday 26th April, two days before our HIS Sports Day so this may be good preparation. The idea is that students who want to be involved will seek sponsors to donate on a per/lap basis. On the morning of the 26th, the students involved will run around the track at HIS with a time limit that is yet to be determined. Please keep an eye out for an email with more information early next week.

Spring Concert

We have our Spring Concert next month and we are happy to welcome back our audience. We will be taking some steps to ensure that the event is COVID friendly, mainly aimed at reducing the number of people on campus at any one time.

  1. One step is to separate the Primary and Secondary events as you can see below with Secondary on Friday and Primary on Saturday. This will reduce audience size.
  2. The other step is to separate the Primary Student-Led Conferences into two sessions which will minimize the number of students waiting. We will schedule the sessions over the coming weeks.
  3. We will also be asking families to avoid gathering in the Genkan space after the concert or at the end of Student-Led Conferences. This will help

We hope that these steps will allow us to both have a live audience and also keep the event COVID friendly.
