PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear HIS Community
Thank you to all of the parents who attended the PYP parent information session. The IB curriculum model in all three of our programs is very different than what many of us may have experienced in our schooling as children, so these sessions are a great time to learn about your child’s program. Thank you to Marisa (Ms V.) our PYP Coordinator for the great session.
We had our Secondary Camp this week and you will see some images in the Crane Video. It was a great three days and with the Gr4/5 camp in September and the volleyball trips all finished, our major overnight activities are complete with the exception of our Model United Nations trip later in the year. These have all been great experiences with students engaging in a range of activities not possible within the regular school environment. They also take a lot of work behind the scenes to put together so I would like to thank all the teachers involved in the organization and chaperoning.
I thought you may be interested in this TED Talk as getting lots of sleep and eating a balanced diet is so important for us all. It is interesting to think of what happens in our brains when we eat different types of food – how our brains experience different tastes. I hope you enjoy the talk and your October break.
Kind regards
Damian Rentoule

CIS COMMUNITY SURVEY FOR PARENTS
As you may know, HIS is currently going through a self-study process for its re-accreditation from the Council of International Schools. We are grateful to all of you who responded to the parent survey that was shared in the Crane last May, however, we are need of more responses from parents in order to get a more representative sample of our community.
If you have not completed this survey yet, we would be grateful if you could do so before 28 October 2019. It should take about 10 minutes to complete. You can access the survey here.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I will be in charge of coordinating the self-study process for both CIS and IB re-accreditation this year. As always, we appreciate your support and cooperation.
MYP/DP INFORMATION SESSIONS – MONDAY 4 NOVEMBER
Our MYP/DP Open Day will take place on Monday 4 November from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. G9, G10 & G11 parents are strongly encouraged to attend the sessions recommended in this linked document: Open Day_2019. Parents of grades 6-8 students are also welcome to attend these sessions.
There will be six presentations taking place in the Pink Room. We hope that you will consider joining us to learn more about the IB DP program, the Extended Essay CAS, College Counselling, the MYP Personal Project and SATs.
Please note that Japanese translation will be provided for each session.
If you will be attending the first session, we kindly ask that you arrive at school by 8:50 so that we can start the day promptly at 9:00. Parking will be available on the playground throughout the morning.
If you have questions in advance of the Open Day sessions, do not hesitate to contact me, Mr John or Ms Sasha.
