🌍 International Day – A Huge Success! 🎉
We are thrilled to share that International Day was a fantastic celebration of culture, community, and connection! A heartfelt thank you to our PTA and the many parent volunteers who made this event possible. Your energy, creativity, and dedication helped showcase the diversity that makes our school so special.
From delicious food stalls to colorful displays and engaging performances, it was a day filled with learning and joy for all ages. The student excitement and family participation truly reflected the spirit of our global community.
We are grateful for your continued support and can’t wait to see what we create together next!
PYP
We’ve had a fantastic week of hands-on learning, community connection, and meaningful inquiry across the Primary Years Programme here at Hiroshima International School.
Our Early Childhood and Kindergarten classes had an exciting and successful trip downtown as part of their inquiry into transportation and community. Students took various modes of transport—including streetcar, train and a bus —as they explored how and why different types of transportation are used in daily life. A big thank you to our dedicated early years team and to Shinobu Sensei for organizing such a rich, real-world experience. We’re also very grateful to the parents for supporting the trip—these moments help our youngest learners make deep and lasting connections with the world around them.
Grades 1 and 2 wrapped up their bouncy egg experiments, using the scientific method to explore chemical reactions and strengthen their investigative thinking. Students made hypotheses, recorded observations, and tested their ideas in engaging, hands-on ways. These activities directly support our science learning outcomes, which emphasize observing, asking questions, predicting outcomes, and using evidence to explain thinking. It has been exciting to see our young scientists in action.
Next week, Grade 3/4 students will head to the NHK Studios as part of their unit on expression and communication. This field trip promises to be an invaluable opportunity for students to see how media, storytelling, and technology are used to share ideas with a wider audience. We wish them all the best and know it will spark even more creativity in the classroom.
Reminder: Please return permission slips if you haven’t already.
This morning, our Grade 5 students welcomed parents, guardians, mentors, and special guests for their Present, Connect, Reflect morning—a key milestone in their PYP Exhibition journey. It was a joy to see our learners share their passions, questions, and actions with the community. A sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to visit and offer encouragement. Connecting with guests like Sayaka-san and Mr. Washington was a true highlight for many students.
Thank you to all the teachers, parents, and community members who continue to support these important learning experiences. The energy and enthusiasm in our classrooms reflect the vibrant learning community we are building together.

Counselor’s Corner Update! 🌟
This week, PYP students have been working on their self-motivation skills by reflecting on what drives them and setting personal goals they’re excited to work toward. These small steps help build a strong foundation for independent, confident learners.
Meanwhile, Grade 6-11 students are preparing to showcase their Empathy & Kindness Campaign projects in next week’s assembly! These projects, created in groups, were designed to promote compassion, inclusion, and positive action within our school community.
At home, we encourage you to engage your child in a conversation about their project:
- Why did you choose this idea?
- What does empathy or kindness mean to you personally?
- What motivated you to commit to this project and see it through?
Helping students make the connection between their values, passions, and actions is a great way to reinforce this month’s theme of self-motivation. When students care deeply about something, they’re more likely to stay engaged, push through challenges, and take pride in their efforts.
Let’s continue encouraging our students to turn their compassion into action and fuel their goals with purpose! 💛✨

The International Festival was a success!
Between pre-ordered tickets (¥629,500), day of ticket sales (¥725,360), and cash sales (¥171,695) the festival took in a total of ¥1,526,555!
And we couldn’t have done it without you.
Thank you to everyone who helped with a food stall! You were able to make delicious food from 10 different countries that was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. And a big thanks to Yuki Goto who lent us the ice cream machine and donated a lot of ingredients.
Thank you to everyone who gave a raffle donation! Thanks to you, we had so many amazing prizes this year and were able to make the raffle extra fun. There were many happy prize winners! Today, the “Lucky Chance Raffle” for students was held, so expect a few more smiles as prizes have been labeled and distributed to the winners. A big thank you to those who contributed to the Lucky Chance Raffle as well!
Thank you for all the donations given to the event. In addition to the raffle, people donated bazaar items, decorations, and more. There was also a generous financial contribution, and we would like to extend a big thank you to that kind donor.
Thank you to all of our stage performers! We got to experience great performances from students, teachers, and groups from around the community. A big thank you to Rintaro’s (KG) mom, Aya, and her band members!
Thank you to everyone who helped with games, demonstrations, and activities in the gym! Students and guests were able to enjoy so many activities from different countries. Our gym was turned into a multicultural carnival!
And of course, another thank you to all of our volunteers. An event this big would not have been possible without everyone’s help. Whether you were parking cars, loading a truck, or helping break down a tent, we appreciate you! Thank you for giving your time, energy, and talents to help make this event possible.
If you would like to join us for our Together Table Lunch to reflect on the Festival and deepen connections within our parent community, please join us on Tuesday, April 22 at 11:30 for lunch!
We look forward to seeing you again soon!
