What an incredible week we’ve had at HIS!

A huge congratulations to all our students on an amazing International Assembly! The performances were truly wonderful, and we all learned so much about different countries and cultures. From energetic dabke steps to the fun of the chicken dance, each moment was filled with joy and enthusiasm. A special shoutout to our 3rd and 4th graders for their entertaining skit, and thank you to our presenters for sharing insightful information about India and Kazakhstan. The 12th-grade students gave us a heartfelt closing that wrapped up the assembly beautifully. A big thank you to our MC Hinano!!

In class news, our 7th graders enjoyed a hands-on lesson in economics, while the 6th-grade class had a fantastic time on their field trip, filled with exploration and learning.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to more great moments next week!

Congratulations to Hinano!

We’re proud to share that Hinano had an interview with the Chugoku Shinbun, Hiroshima’s local newspaper! She spoke about her inspiring charity fundraiser, which aims to support the restoration of the stolen Sadako Statue at Seattle Peace Park.

Her fundraiser will take place during our school festival this Saturday—don’t miss the chance to support a meaningful cause led by one of our own students!

Way to go, Hinano! 🌟

Emailing the office:

If you would like to send to Makkie-san (Yuko Makio), the school secretary in the office, please make sure that the address you type is one of office@hiroshima-is.ac.jp, makkie@ or ymakio@. If you type “Maki” in the email, Google shows you “Maki Nontani”, our accountant in the office but that’s not the same person as Makkie-san with the short hair! We are sorry for any confusion it causes and thank you for your understanding and cooperation in advance.

Counselor’s Corner Update! 🌟

This month, we’re continuing our focus on Self-Motivation. We’re encouraging students to reflect on what drives them, the goals they want to set, and most importantly, why those goals matter. By thinking about their personal motivators, students can discover the energy and strategies they need to achieve their goals.

At home, a great way to support this is by creating a Motivation Checklist together. Sit down with your child and brainstorm what helps them get started, stay focused, and feel proud of their progress. Your checklist might include:

  • Listening to upbeat music
  • Taking short movement or mindfulness breaks
  • Setting small, achievable goals to support achieving the bigger overall goal
  • Using positive self-talk or affirmations

Here’s a helpful activity to try together:

  • Motivation Jar – Fill a jar with motivational quotes, goals, or actions to give your child a boost when they need it. It is important that your child takes the lead in filling the jar to encourage their self-motivation.

Let’s keep encouraging our students to build curiosity, independence, and confidence in their own ability to succeed! 💛✨
