We made it through the snow❄️ and freezing weather🌨️! Our online💻 classes were a success—not our favorite way to learn, but definitely the safest option for everyone. I hope you all enjoyed your unexpected free day(Wednesday)! We’re so excited to welcome everyone back to campus on Monday! The weather forecast looks fantastic🌤️, so let’s hope for a smooth and enjoyable week ahead.
Thank you to the parents for the Crepe day! Celebrating Chandeleur! They got a great arm 💪workout whipping👩🍳 the batter!
MYP Exhibition- February 24th – 2:00-4:00 pm
Parents we invite you to visit our MYP Exhibition! The students have been working hard on their Personal Projects!
Counselor’s Corner Update! 🌟
As we prepare for this month’s SEL theme of Empathy and Kindness, we’ve started engaging students in meaningful discussions about what it truly means to be empathetic. We’re encouraging students to reflect on how they can demonstrate empathy in their daily lives, both within and beyond the classroom.
This month, we’re eager to emphasize that kindness is a chain reaction—when one person shows kindness, it inspires others to do the same, creating a ripple effect that fosters a positive and supportive environment.
A special highlight this month is our first Social Emotional Learning Assembly on February 21st for Grades 6–11. Students will collaborate in groups to brainstorm creative ways to spread kindness and empathy within our school community. They’ll have the opportunity to turn their ideas into action through campaigns that inspire others. I can’t wait to see the amazing projects they come up with!
💡 Keep the Conversation Going at Home:
Ask your child, “What is one act of kindness you showed or received today?”
Encourage random acts of kindness in your community—helping a neighbor, writing a thank-you note, or even sharing a small treat with someone can make a big difference.
Parents of EC/KG students – please join Masayo Sensei and I for a collaborative parent coffee next Monday (February 10th), where we discuss strategies to adopt SEL at home and review assessment and reports for the early years students. Click here to RSVP. Hope to see you there!
Let’s work together to make kindness contagious! 💛✨

Happy chilly Friday! What an interesting week this was at HIS! Thank you for your flexibility as we adjust to some unexpected challenges this week. We hope that everyone was able to stay safe and warm as the weather kept us guessing.
First, thank you so much to all the parents that helped us celebrate the French holiday of Chandeleur! There were a lot of lucky students and teachers and they turned the halls into a crepe flipping (and eating!) party. It was a wonderful cultural experience!
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our General Meeting that was scheduled for today. Please stay tuned as we will be rescheduling it as soon as possible. We also have rescheduled our HIS Ski Day that was planned for tomorrow. It will now be on Saturday, February 15, so come meet us for a day of fun in the snow!
Next week is Valentines Day! We will start celebrating on Thursday, February 13, one day before Valentines Day, so students can craft and buy gifts to be ready for the 14th! We will be offering treats for sale, as well as a few surprises. There will also be a PTA Snack Shop on Thursday and Friday, February 13-14.
International Festival is coming and we need your help! We are planning on talking about International Festival at upcoming General Meeting. Since the meeting was postponed, here is some basic information to get the planning started.
We have divided up the preparations by category, so that there is a point of contact for parents and teachers who want to volunteer.
- International Cafe – Rika
- Games and Kids Activities – Sakiko
- Raffle – Beatrice
- Stage Acts and Demonstrations – Jessica
If you are interested in volunteering or have ideas you would like to share, please contact us! We will be sharing our contact information and volunteer sign up sheets in our LINE group. If you are not on LINE, please send us an email and we can send you the links.
Thank you for continuing to be a caring and involved community! And as you enjoy the snow this weekend, let it remind us that each snowflake is unique and beautiful, just like each child.
