A big thank you to our Grade 1/2 parents for attending this month’s Parent Coffee Morning! We had a fantastic discussion about the importance of observational learning for children aged 4-8 and explored strategies to be effective role models as they grow and learn.
This week, students across PYP, MYP, and DP began exploring the foundations of effective communication, focusing on active listening and empathy. For our younger learners in PYP, we used play-based activities to start conversations about how listening makes others feel valued. For MYP and DP students, we introduced reflective discussions to encourage them to think about how listening strengthens relationships in both social and academic contexts.
While we’ve only begun this important dialogue, after the break, we’ll be building on these ideas by developing specific skills for active listening, turn-taking, and empathetic, open-minded communication. During the winter break, it’s a great time to nurture these conversations at home! For PYP students, share stories and take turns reflecting on the characters’ perspectives. For MYP and DP students, engage in thoughtful discussions about current events or shared experiences, modeling the importance of being present and open-minded listeners.
I’m so excited to continue growing these skills with your children in the new year! 💛✨
