The Crane, 30 August 2024

Dear HIS Community,

We’ve had a fantastic beginning to the new school year, even with a brief online learning day due to Typhoon #10. Thank you for your understanding and support during this time.

Thank you also to those who attended our Coffee Morning and learned about the upcoming CIS accreditation visit. We’re excited to showcase HIS’s exceptional offerings to the accreditation team.

A special shout-out to Tayako Sensei for her 30 years of dedicated service! The assembly was a heartwarming tribute to her, filled with love and appreciation. We can’t wait to see what the next 30 years will bring.

We have an exciting week ahead.

Please take some time to review our Mission, Vision, and Guiding Philosophy Statements.

Our Mission

HIS will provide an international education that promotes integrity, excellence, cultural sensitivity and a lifelong commitment to peace and a sustainable planet.

Our Vision

HIS will cultivate young people who are prepared for lifelong learning, meeting challenges and outstanding citizenship anywhere in the world.

Guiding Philosophy Statements

  • To provide a truly international education that prepares children to play a full and active role as global citizens and leaders.
  • To provide opportunities for students both to develop a strong sense of their self-identity and to be able to express this.
  • To engage integrally in the opportunities for learning afforded by the cultural and linguistic diversity of our location and community.
  • To provide opportunities for students to foster a commitment to world peace based on a spirit of mutual understanding and cultural respect.

  • To foster a sense of community among the students, parents, faculty, administration and Board, based on open communication, mutual respect, cooperation and concern.
  • To act as a model school for others that share our ideals and beliefs

Parent Information Night (September 6, 18:00–19:30)

As a reminder, our Parent Information Night will be held next week, September 6 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. We’ve planned this event to resemble an open house, allowing you to meet with your child’s teachers in their respective classrooms.

Each teacher will have their classroom set up to showcase the curriculum, expectations, and resources for all the classes they teach.

Parents are welcome to bring their children to the event. Ms. Kristen will be available to address questions about the student handbook, attendance policies, and other important information.

If you have any questions or concerns about this arrangement, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Welcome from the PTA Wolfpack

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope everyone had a pleasant summer.

First, we would like to introduce the PTA committee members for this year: Beatrice Tixier-Mathot, Rika Ishibashi, Jessica Condi, Kazuko Numata, Anna Kallman, and Sakiko Fuchigami. The PTA Wolfpack has some great events planned this year and can’t wait to work with you to put on fun activities and gatherings for our students. You can contact us by LINE or email (pta@hiroshima-is.ac.jp) with any ideas, questions or concerns.

We would like to extend a special welcome to our new HIS students and families. We were glad to get to meet many of you at the new student orientation and the “Meet the Principal” event. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to join our HIS Parents Group on LINE. We use it to share reminders, urgent notices, and exchange information with everyone. Each PYP class also has its own LINE group. If you are not in it please let us know, and we will add you.

We are still looking for a few Room Parents for PYP classes this year! Being a Room Parent is a fun opportunity that allows you to get involved with HIS and assist with their learning journey. It does not require a huge time commitment. Some of the responsibilities include organizing gifts, planning parties, and sharing information. If anyone is interested in becoming a Room Parent, please contact any PTA officer directly or send a message by email or on LINE.

We would also like to welcome our new principal, Ms. Kristin Dickhaut. We are looking forward to working with her this year to capture the spirit of our school’s guiding philosophy. To help emphasize her theme of working “together,” we are doing our best to have open communication with all parents this year. To start, we would like to ask you what you think is the best way to share information. If you would like to participate, please fill out this Google form.

We will do our best to help you. If you all have any questions or are unsure about anything, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to working with you this year.
